Decision Science
Constant pressure on cost reduction and faster reaction
We specialise in computer-based modelling and fact-based analyses (Decision Science) as an integrated project element to create the best possible basis for our customers to make well-informed decisions and execute strategic transformations.
Increased complexity and volatility
The most important trends for companies today are increased complexity and volatility. Unpredictability is part of this new reality – and often your company’s survival depends on whether you can tackle complexity better and more efficiently than your competitors. Computer simulation is an efficient way of assessing challenges and alternative solutions under a particular set of ”what if” scenarios and conditions.
The benefits are tangible: By selecting the best alternative you also avoid mistakes which could have disastrous consequences.
Model-based strategy support
With our computer simulation service, we design a dynamic model to support strategic decisions about e.g. investments or sales as well as the timing of this type of decisions. The model typically depict a casual loop description of the factors that determine drivers for demand and supply, pricing and competitive advantages in a given market. The model is created to reduce customers’ perceived complexity of market uncertainty and volatility while helping to tackle the complexity and risk. Decision support of high value.
Processes and logistics
High complexity also exists at a more tactical level when planning how to construct and manage a supply chain, structuring flow and patient care at new hospitals, and the most efficient way to plan and drive a transport network of cars, trains, aircraft or ships. Simulating processes, business procedures, production systems, logistics and transport clarifies the flow and timing of the activities and processes and shows e.g.:
- Where queues and bottlenecks arise
- How resources are used
- How time and quality demands are fulfilled
- Where costs are added
By simulating and comparing alternative ways of implementing changes, your company will avoid mistakes that could otherwise have had disastrous consequences.
Methods and tools
The Implement Decision Science Team has many years of experience with this technology, and we work with a solid set of methods and state-of-the-art tools.
In a nutshell, the approach contains the following three milestones:
- In workshops with the client, we establish a common understanding of your company’s issues and objectives – and based on this issue mapping, we agree on the analytical goals and deliverables for the analysis.
- With a thoroughly tested and efficient approach, we develop a computer-based model and collect the data that drive it. The model simulates the basic structures, processes, rules and logic and generates the output (KPIs) that provides detailing insight into cause and effect while revealing why and what action should or should not be taken.
- Implementing the model and analysis capability which enables you to integrate the model into your own future analysis and decision-making process is a key stage. Training, hands-on experience and new working methods are part of implementation.
