According to the company’s CEO, logistical efficiency was required for 3 main reasons: The location of the Zealand steel warehouse in Copenhagen city centre was no longer logistically viable, the customers were requiring smaller but more frequent consignments and introducing a technology to improve employee health & safety was a top priority.

Also the company wanted to identify the potential related to the introduction of new working methods based on the Lean principles.

  • An improved planning function focusing on the shortest lead time possible

The case company, which among other things produces ventilation systems, found the production in Denmark wage consuming compared to their factory in Prague. This combined with a lack of focus on flow and a constant pressure from the sales organisation resulted in dissatisfactory earnings and delayed customer orders. An analysis showed a significant potential for cost reductions by reorganising the production process.
