Authenticity

Be authentic, honest and inspire trust

The success of change projects depends to a great extent on the organisation’s trust in the project and in the persons representing the project. Success also depends on the relations between the persons in the project and, again, their relations to other stakeholders of the organisation.

Authentic behaviour is one of the strongest tools when it comes to changing perceptions and improving relations within the organisation. Therefore, daring to be honest towards yourself and your surroundings is imperative in a change process.

But honesty requires major personal effort and courage, as the risk of creating instability in the organisation is always present, and, not least, you run a risk by jeopardising your authority as a leader.

Questions you need to ask yourself

  • Do your colleagues see you as authentic, reliable, honest and attentive
  • When did you last answer ”I don’t know”?
  • What kind of reflexion, feedback and questions are appropriate yet daring to ask employees who are involved in the change process?

You cannot argue your way through a change process
